Gung Ho, a new Chinese-American eatery from the parent company of HG Sply Co. and Standard Service, has officially opened its doors on Lowest Greenville.
Gung Ho took over Remedy’s former spot at 2010 Greenville Ave. When Remedy closed last year, it was both a surprise and a bummer for fans of the upscale American eatery, but it’s parent company 8020 Hospitality promised an exciting Chinese-American rebrand, and is now ready to debut the restaurant’s completely revamped interiors.
Founder Elias Pope tapped Kirstyn Brewer of Victor Tangos to lead the kitchen at Gung Ho. Brewer developed a menu of both traditional and new-age takes on Chinese-American cuisine, like pickled veggie egg rolls; wonton soup with braised bacon and shrimp dumplings; and char siu pork with steamed buns. “I’ve always been passionate about this type of cuisine,” Brewer said in a statement. “Growing up eating this food was the only time my family and I had a shared experience of different dishes.”
Beverage director Matt Ragan (Victor Tangos, Westside Tavern) and bar manager Zach Potts brought together an “uncommon” selection of wines and created a beverage menu with unexpected twists on traditional cocktails. There’s a Thai tea shot with rum, and the Plum Wine 75, which is like a French 75 but with added plum wine and tamarind syrup. “I wanted to create a drink menu as fun and approachable as the food,” Ragan said in a statement. “I love Asian flavors and drew a lot of my influence from ingredients in favorite dishes.”
Gung Ho is now open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Scope out photos of the space below, along with the dinner menu, before making a reservation.
